Privacy Policy (version 1.2)

Who am I?

My name is Mercedes Marie Ward. My blog website is www.sustdevpraxis.com.

What personal data do I collect and why do I collect it?

At this time, comments on blog posts are not enabled (you may share any comments by finding me on Twitter), and I do not collect any personal information directly through this site. However, if you subscribe to follow the blog through your WordPress account, WordPress will notify me and include you in the subscriber list. You can remove yourself from this list at any time.

I use WordPress.com for this site (which is hosted by Bluehost) which uses Jetpack Stats to track site traffic (i.e., number of visitors, number page views). This helps me assess which topics are most interesting to readers, which in turn helps me develop new content in a responsive way.

According to WordPress.com:

Jetpack Stats tracks and retains the following information about your site’s visitors:

  • Post and page views
  • Video plays
  • Outbound link clicks
  • Referring URLs and search engine terms
  • Country

As part of collating the above information, Jetpack Stats uses data like IP address, WordPress.com user ID (if logged in), WordPress.com username (if logged in), user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, and country code. However, none of this information is available to site owners. For example, a site owner can see that a specific post has 285 views, but he/she cannot see which specific users/accounts viewed that post. Furthermore, the Jetpack Stats logs, in which this information is stored, are only retained for 28 days.”

As noted by WordPress.com, this information is not accessible to me. For more about what information WordPress Stats provides to site owners (i.e., me), please see this page: https://wordpress.com/support/stats/.

What is WordPress.com’s Privacy Policy?

WordPress.com collects information for its own purposes as well. The WordPress.com Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

What about cookies?

Cookies can be helpful; they can also be undesirable. I have installed a plug-in “Complianz – GDPR/CCPA Cookie Consent” by Really Simple Plugins that I hope helps give site visitors clear information and options regarding cookies and privacy (see the consent banner for a detailed cookie policy that the Complianz plug-in helped create). More information about this plug-in can be found here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/complianz-gdpr/.

Note that you can scroll down on the Cookie Policy page and opt-out of accepting cookies if you change your mind.

External links

I do not receive any commission when you click on external links. However, please be aware that when you click on an external link, you will be leaving my blog website and visiting another site that will have its own Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy will be updated as needed. (Last update: 9-19-2023)
